The problem is one of leverage and insolvency.&lt;br&gt;People made bets &quot;on margin&quot; thinking their bets were always going to go up&lt;br&gt;and they levered themselves with credit to take advantage of the run up.&lt;br&gt;Well asset prices are falling, the debt load doesn&#039;t change and no we need&lt;br&gt;to de-lever one way or another.  Do it now or do it later, but it has to be&lt;br&gt;unwound.</description>

This is because the government interferes with the market mechanism which efficiently seeks to remove the air from the bubble that burst. Simply put there will not be a price stabilization until houses become affordable again to households in an environment of low to moderate growth. With the current pace, that will take at least 15 to 20 years from now.</description>
