Your last question stem's from hope and nothing else. The fact of the matter is that highly leveraged consumers and business's need to deleverage. One way or another. The prices of homes have dropped considerably ,however, the fact that home buyers are not yet enticed to buy shows that the prices have not become enticing enough. The system needs to wash itself from the excessiveness of the past and unfortunately there is no other way.By the way,why would anyone be encouraged to buy a home with a 15000$ tax credit if you know for a fact that the value of that home is on the way down for at least the foreseeable future.

All this work sounds great for the people that own a house. Horrible for the people (such as myself) that have been saving to have a real downpayment and affordable houses.

All this work to "stabilize" housing prices to me means bring things back to 2001 or so levels. The last few years I have been on the sidelines watching intently as everything skyrocketed. The reality is that if you haven't just bought your house you are most likely still looking at some good ROI. When did a home move from a place to live to an investment? Maybe that is what the government should be focusing its efforts on.
