I'm completely opposed to the government bailing out anyone, but I was also completely opposed to government interference in the financial markets that allowed the situation to develop in the first place. That interference came int he form of the implied guarantee that so many businesses were too big to fail so the government would always pick up the failure tab. If it were always understood from day one that failure means failure, companies would not be able to take the sort of risks they have been taking over the years.

All that being said, if AIG doesn't continue marketing and convincing the independent financial advisers that selling AIG products is still worthwhile, they might as well shut the doors today.
