I like CRay's comments.

Let's not blame the workers in this. The union bashing is a loser issue. Who's decision was it NOT to change the business model 35 years ago after the first oil shock. These companies (like a lot of American companies, union and non-union) were poorly run, and had no vision...never looking past the next quarter.

You may want to get off those RNC talking points on Reid and Pelosi.

I knew when Bush got in there he'd drive this economy into the ground, and you can thank that ass clown Phil Gramm for being one of the main architects of the mortgage meltdown.

.. Fine, let's give money to the auto industry...

But, if we do .. we need to make the auto industry equal.

GM/Ford/Chrysler are now paying for the retirement and medical programs for their employee's from 1969, 1975, 1989 and 2005 which is running into the billions ---

On the other hand .. except for plants being run in the United States, Toyota/Honda/Nissan, etc are now paying for -0- as in "Zero" for their employee's, because retirement and medical benefits for the Japanese are held by the state, by the government - not by a private business like GM/Ford/Chrysler.

The very first retirement/medical costs were first inccurred by Honda when they built their first plant in Marysville Ohio in 1982, and net costs didn't happen until 1990 because of tax credits .. in the meantime all plant profits went back to Japan.

-- The point is simple ... the American auto industry pays 80 cents on the dollar for benefits of their employees --

In the meantime, Japanese companies like Honda/Toyota/Nissan, etc, are subsidized by their own government, and have been since 1972, so that HUGE cost is never incurred - so their costs are less than 15cts, while the American companies are choking on 80 cents+...

... and we wonder why the American companies can't compete.??

-

produce efficient and green car will not solve the problem, the naive one. you need to turn the business around into profitable one. cut the worker and production cost and produce the car customer wants. if customer wants efficient car, then build efficient car. simply build efficient and green car will not solve the problem.

Don't forget the unions. They need to go. Rescue money ought to come with the proviso that the unions must disband.

Well, the auto industry is not fine anywhere in the country, but demand for cars isn't going to disappear. It has contracted severely, just like demand has contracted in other parts of the economy. But demand always fluctuates, and it will expand again.

The auto industry is not doing fine in other parts of the nation. It is mismanaged, and it needs to be streamlined and refigured. As I state in my post, any money given to the automakers should come with the stipulation that it is spent on investing in efficient and sustainable technologies. Otherwise, as Susan pointed out, it would just go towards lining the pockets of the executives.

These guys are now crazy. The auto industry is doing fine in other NON UNION states in the country. These big, inefficient, poorly run companies IN HIGH TAX STATES need to die and die quickly. Saving them will not save one house. Giving them billions in cash to continue their inefficient companies is exactly the wrong thing to do and I am glad that untested and no experience Obama is going to do it first.

It shows why the national papers and news organizations that sold this bag of inexperienced crap to the world will watch in wonder as more and more cash is sent to banks and investment companies for bonuses and money to inefficient companies continues.

I can't wait until he gets into the nation's security with Pelosi and Reid. Get ready America for a tingle up your leg and bankruptcy equal to the Great Depression. After this he will be raising those taxes, the absolutely last thing that put the nail in the Depression.

Did a great job not vetting this man because you were wowed by his race.

I think that makes you racists........................
