I am also glad they chose not to raise it. Americans living beyond their means sets the general public up for a life of debt and despair.

Makes for an interesting argument though!

Tom: LOL. I was in a humorous mood and the news was Tuesday... But like I said, just in case someone missed it.

Don: I for one am glad they didn't raise it either. This correcting market will bring to light how many Americans are living beyond their means. If we raised the limits, I'd feel as if though we'd be perpetuating the problem.

Now in saying this I'm not singling out homeowners and saying "hey too bad!" I'm simply saying that this probably isn't a good solution to it all.

I'm thankful they did not raise it. It's just rewarding bad behavior and stupidity. It's better to stop the bleeding and take the medicine now. We just MIGHT avoid a depression.

Well Mark, it seems they'll do what's convenient.

When Bernanke met with the Joint Economic Committee in early November, they touched on the notion of raising the Loan Limits during their Q&A; I'm sure many individuals would've liked this.

But, based on calculation I believe we were in line for a decrease to the loan limits (so your memory serves you well). However with homes depreciating nationally, the OFHEO decided to defer any decrease to the Loan Limit for (1) one year. They issued that statement on October 16th...

It's funny how they loved adjusting it upwards when prices were rising, but now they hold steady while the bubble bursts. I seem to recall that they're mandated to lower it if this happens, but my memory may not be correct.
