I live in Oceanside - we're in between evac zones and looks like we'll be OK. BUT, I just had an industry related thought.

I wonder how many of the homes that have been lost were bank owned? What kind of nightmare will that create for the financial institutions that own them? The loans will have to sit on their books for a few years before the property can be rebuilt and sold, won't they? Or will the empty lots be sold after insurance companies pay off on policies? Hmmm...

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. For right now we appear to be in great shape (fingers crossed). I hope that our fine firefighters can get some containment on some of these fires pronto. Thanks again for the concern, it means a lot to us all out here!

hang in there, the red cross has a safe and well list. You can put yourself on the list and you can search for others if you get separated.

Thanks Jillayne, we're actually in OC a few miles from the Santiago fire. I have a bunch of friends in SD from living down there for 5 years (one who has already lost their home, another one isn't looking so good). We're OK up here for now (except for the above-mentioned mild side effects) but thank you for your concern. We keep a close eye on it all, have saline, water, blankets, flashlights, etc. ready to go should anything spark around here.

Hey, best wishes to you. I'm currently an expat but grew up, went to school, and started married life in the Southland. It's really weird for me to read about the fires from overseas. So close, yet so far away. I'm wishing the best for you and my fellow Southern Californians.

Oh my gosh! I had no idea; I've been teaching all day and I come home to read this? Wow. Morgan, I did not know that you are in San Diego. I lived there for a few years in the mid 1960s as a small child. Are you okay? Stay safe.
