After years of originating FHA loans, I think that the FHA SecurePlan is nothing more than an election year platform (among many other in lending) that will make the average consumer feel like something is being done. The reality is that it is a program designed to find a perfect shiny needle in a haystack of un-perfect needles. The moral of the story is if you have to pay anything late (And I do not highly recommend it) It should never be the mortgage. A timely mortgage history along with some other compensating factors will always be your saving grace with most lenders and especially with a standard FHA loan program.

Does anyone know a lender actually offering this product? I'm in wholesale and haven't found a soul who does these - if you could find a borrower to qualify.

But an excellent article on FHA qualifying for borrowers and loan originators!

Jillayne - I agree 100% with you. The tough part is teaching originators and borrowers that!

FHA Secure is not the magic diet pill that's going to save the housing market. But I predict it will be used at least one time in every politician's campaign speech who's up for re-election between now and Nov 2008.
