He had a plan in place to start selling stock before the mortgage mess took place. He sold his stock after it's value dropped 50%. If thats insider trading than he is not very good at it. Personally I would like the SEC focus more on how to value the mortgage backed securities out there. That would do a lot to help us get through this mess. Then the credit markets will improve. The stock price of Countrywide would go up and Mozilo (for those of you who have demonized him) will have taken a really big hit. Its unlikely that there is any problem with his stock options. He isn't going to do anything that jepordizes his reputation or risk the reputation of his baby. He also has always surrounded himself with intelligent people that protect him at all costs. My guess is it was all done close enough to legal to get away with any wrong doing. People should just be happy he'll be retired by 2009, which means the last person that wants to keep CW wholly owned by CFC will be gone.
