Thanks for your reply.  I tend to think we are already heading in that direction but I don&#039;t know if we&#039;ll settle on 3X, 4X, 5X or someting else.  That all depends on how badly the investors get burned.  If I had to guess, I think 4X is the most likely.  I think 5X will still be possible in the future for a small elite category of borrowers - a great FICO, a large down payment and solid history of paying his mortgage on time.  First time buyers will likely be locked out of 5X mortgages.

But, I&#039;m just groping in the dark here.

But I would put solid money on the 5x range at some point.  Thought when and exact numbers would be hard to pinpoint.
