I couldn't agree more with the article. The only downer was that there wasn't MORE space allocated to why I hate the industry so much.

The real dilemma is that the mortgage finance business/real estate business is like a career bowl with very high sides that are unescapable. You can try to leave, but you inevitably slide down to the bottom every time.

I hate my industy and have no way out. That's just plain sad.

[...] If you fell for that poorly reasoned argument in the first place I feel sorry for you; but at last, that remaining mirage of hope for the poor folks at the NAR and other disillusioned cheerleaders has evaporated. The New York Times reports that the median home price is expected to drop for the first time since 1950. Try to spin that one Lawrence Yun.
To me, the worst part of being a real estate sales person or whatever you want to call me other than a realtor (the most meaningless word I can think of) is having to pay $500 a year to an organization that I hate on almost every level. I hate lobbyists in general, and I hate that I have to pay good money to a lobbying organization that NEVER represents what's best for consumers and our industry long-term, but almost always represents a short-term, take 'em for all they're worth agenda.

Mr. O - I know they are a trade organization but a little realism would be a little refreshing. Big tobacco still supports anti-smoking programs and doesn't advertise that smoking hasn't been directly linked to cancer.

They could at least be out there providing home owner education, talking about how to find good values, things to consider when moving in to a market - you know - real, honest, valuable information? not just shoveling bs and discrediting themselves like a bunch of jerks.

Dude, the NAR is effectively a trade organization to promote the real estate industry. They have to sound positive. Being negative would be the same as "big tobacco" promoting the side effects of smoking. It isn't why they are around.
