Opteum Financial closes California offices early

by Morgan on June 19, 2007

The OC Register reports that Opteum employees who thought they had until Friday before losing their jobs showed up today at the Foothill Ranch office location to security guards and locked doors.  They were told that the building was closed due to "operational issues" and that they would be paid through Friday.

Another ignominious ending for a high-flying lender – and this one in the Alt-A field to boot.  Opteum has been my Moby Dick since reporting on its demise early and being swept up in the drama of employee strong-arming, criticism and threats about other reports from the companies involved and more.  It’s amazing what a little blogger in Orange County can stir up with a few choice blog posts.

So fare-thee-well Opteum and thanks for the memories.
