Loan Officers, sack up please.

I look around my office, I see people watching CNBC and Bloomberg hearing the same thing over and over: "subprime meltdown".  Then surprisingly, they use it as an excuse to mail it in.  Like the demise of their career is at the doorstep and they are laying down accepting that they’ll never have consistent, good business ever again.

To them I say "WAKE UP!!" people are still refinancing, people need good, sound, honest advice now more than ever.  Do not give up, do not become a statistic of this meltdown.  There are so many good loans out there; people who need and want to refinance, or have moved or relocated and need to find a good loan.  People that want to get out of their "exotic" mortgage before it adjusts.  In short, a lot of business is still out there.

The meltdown is a blessing to the driven loan officer, the driven company.  When the pretenders walk away in to other lines of work, when the small brokers disappear, when the people not as educated, experienced or hungry as you leave you will have an advantage.  Leverage your expertise, your insight, your honest perspective to help people – and earn their trust and then their business.

Is it harder now, absolutely.  Is there less demand, yes.  Will it be tough for a while, guaranteed.  But guess what?  This is still a good way to make an honest living.  Just because you can’t show up and pick up a paycheck doesn’t mean you should roll over.  So, if you are in the industry, if you are a loan officer – rise to the challenge.  Hone your skills, practice and master your craft, become an expert.  Help people, make a living, sleep well at night, use the meltdown to your advantage.  Be excellent.
